چکیده

A novel 3D computational model was developed for the turbulent particulate two-phase flow simulation in rectangular channel. The is based on Eulerian approach applied to Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes modeling and statistical Probability Distribution Function method. uniqueness of method lies direct calculation normal transverse components Reynolds stresses both gas particles. Two cases were examined: a conventional channel grid-generated turbulence flow. obtained numerical results have been verified validated by experimental data, received from particle dispersion test. computed values particles’ maximum value concentration distribution show good agreement with results. examples are ranged coal other bulk material pneumatic transport, vertical fluidized beds, gasifiers, chemical reactors.

Joint PDF modeling of turbulent flow and dispersion in an urban street canyon

The joint probability density function (PDF) of turbulent velocity and concentration of a passive scalar in an urban street canyon is computed using a newly developed particle-in-cell Monte Carlo method. Compared to moment closures, the PDF methodology provides the full one-point one-time PDF of the underlying fields containing all higher moments and correlations. The small-scale mixing of the ...

PDF modeling and simulation of premixed turbulent combustion

The use of probability density function (PDF) methods for turbulent combustion simulations is very attractive because arbitrary finite-rate chemistry can be exactly taken into account. PDF methods are well developed for non-premixed turbulent combustion. However, many real flames involve a variety of mixing regimes (non-premixed, partially-premixed and premixed turbulent combustion), and the de...

Statistical modeling of compressible turbulent channel flow

Several questions that are relevant to turbulence modeling are addressed on the basis of recently obtained direct numerical simulation results of turbulent supersonic channel flow. In particular, this concerns the turbulence frequency production mechanism, wall damping effects on turbulence model parameters, and the relevance of compressibility effects. Limited support is found for usually appl...

Presumed PDF Modeling of Reactive Oxy-Fuel Flow in a Model Combustor

A non-premixed coaxial oxy-fuel turbulent flame was studied numerically with standard and realizable k-ε turbulence model and a comparison was made between them. The governing equations were solved by finite volume approach and were discretized using the second order upwind scheme. The presumed β-PDF model was applied to model turbulence-combustion interaction. The discrete ordinate radiation h...

This course material is used in two courses in the International Master’s programmeAppliedMechanics at Chalmers. The two courses are TME225 Mechanics of fluids (Chapters 1-10), and MTF270 Turbulence Modeling (Chapters 11-27). MSc students who follow these courses are supposed to have taken one basic course in fluid mechanics. The lecture notes are also used in the three-day course Unsteady Simu...
